Will Reavis Biography
Will Reavis graduated from Putnam City High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree from The University of Houston. He was awarded his Master of Music degree from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. Mr. Reavis studied clarinet from Mr. Loris Wiles and Mr. Jeffrey Lerner and conducting from Mr. James Matthews and Dr. George Baker.
Mr. Reavis served as Assistant Band Director at L.D. Bell High School in Hurst-Euless-Bedford I.S.D. for 3 years; Director of Bands at Howard Payne University, in Brownwood, Texas; was Assistant Director of Bands at Lamar High School, Lamar Consolidated I.S.D., Rosenberg, Texas; and Director of Bands at Dean Junior High School, Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D., Houston, Texas.
In the spring of 1968, Mr. Reavis was selected to be the first Director of Bands as well as Trinity's Director of Fine Arts; positions he held until the end of the 1972 school year. Before the official opening of Trinity H.S., Mr. Reavis composed the music and words for the Trinity High School Alma Mater and Fight Song.
Upon completion of the 1971-72 school year, Mr. Reavis was offered an opportunity to become a Representative for Q.S.P., a subsidiary of Reader's Digest Association Inc. After retiring in 1982 from Reader's Digest, he continued to clinic bands, teach privately and play professionally while living in Longview, Texas.
Since 1989, Mr. Reavis has been Instructor of Clarinet, Saxophone and Woodwind Pedagogy at The University of Texas at Tyler. Additionally, he served as Instructor of Clarinet at Tyler Junior College and as the private teacher of numerous high school musicians from the East Texas region.
Mr. Reavis has taught over 60 Texas High School All-State clarinetists, including his step-daughter Vicki Gotcher, clarinetist and soloist with "The President's Own" United States Marine Band/Marine Chamber Orchestra in Washington, D.C.
